Instant booking is available for groups of up to 12 guests.

A pre-authorisation of £10 per person is required for most bookings.
This amount is only charged for cancellations made less than 24 hours in advance, late arrivals, or incomplete groups.

Please note:  Please arrive a few minutes early for your booking.

 * Your table will be held for up to 15 minutes past your reservation time.
After this, it may be released at the discretion of management

A limited number of tables are also available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Cancellation Policy

1. Terms of cancellation for a drinks booking (groups of 9+ people)

Cancellation of a drinks booking is to be made directly with the venue via phone 01865 745 991. The cancellation becomes effective upon confirmation via email from the Bookings Coordinator.

Deposits are not refunded for cancellations made less than 48 hours before the booking time.  

In case of incomplete arrivals, the deposit will not be refunded but can still be used as a drinks tab. Please be advised, we can only hold tables for up to 15 minutes from your booking time, for any late arrivals. 

2. Terms of drinks booking (groups of 8 or fewer)

A pre-authorisation of £10 is charged on your card, when you make a booking. Cancellation within 24 hours of the reserved date and time, late arrivals or incomplete group arrivals could result in the following:

Cancellation fee of £5 per person, if seated indoors.

Cancellation fee of £10 per person, if seated on the roof terrace.

FAQs

  • From 12 noon daily: Roof Terrace open for drinks.

  • When an area or time slot is fully booked it will not be shown as an option.
    Note Saturdays are exceptionally busy and tend to be booked a few weeks in advance.

  • TVC is within a period building, unfortunately there is no lift.

    There are 78 steps to the roof (4th floor).

    Toilets are situated on the 2nd floor.

    The venue is not suitable for wheelchair access.

  • Advance rooftop bookings via the website are for tables in the covered area. These are weather proof except for stormy conditions

  • The roof has fixed tables and seating, generally arranged in pairs.
    We can usually increase a table from 5 to 6 but other changes require a new booking.

  • From 10 pm onwards on Friday and Saturday evenings, we operate an entry fee of £5 and £10 respectively. You need not pay an entry fee, if you have a booking with us.
    Please be advised, we take our last reservation at 10 pm.

  • The Varsity will make every effort to take care of all items in their custody and to return items safely & promptly. However cannot guarantee that all items at all times will always be returned undamaged.

    After a period of 14 days, any items shall become the property of The Varsity Club, and are disposed of accordingly. Items such as identification shall be returned to the relevant agencies.

  • Please don’t make website bookings for - multiple areas at the same time/ multiple time slots. We will allow you to stay longer if there is space available.

  • The Pod is available year round and hold 15-17 as a mix of seated and standing. In Summer the doors and roof open wide. In Winter it is enclosed and has heating.
    A hire fee is payable for exclusive bookings. Weekend hire fee is £250 with an additional £500 minimum spend for a 3hr booking.

  • *We can only guarantee keeping your table for up to 15 minutes after your original booking time*
    If your entire group is not present at your reserved time, we may reassign your table. If we are able to seat you, we still require the table to be returned at the finish time. We highly recommend that you arrive a few minutes early.

  • Deposits are applied toward your final bill but are non-refundable.

    Card authentication is used to secure your booking — no funds are taken at the time of booking. However, in the event of a no-show, a fee of £10 per person may be charged.

  • Cancellations less than 48hrs before your reservation will incur a fee either £5 or £10 per person depending on your booking.

  • Regular closing times are midnight Sunday-Thursday, 2 am Friday and Saturday.

  • On Friday and Saturday evenings we operate an over-21s admission policy after 9pm. 18-20 year olds are able to stay and enjoy the venue as part of a pre-booked group.

  • Under 18s can be admitted only with an adult family member and must not be on the premises after 8pm.

  • Sorry, we don’t allow pets, although assistance dogs are permitted.

  • If you have a private event and wish to enjoy particular wines that we don’t supply – corkage of £20 per bottle applies.

    Groups of up to 8 people can be booked automatically. Popular times – especially on Saturdays – maybe fully booked so please select another time or date.

    For larger groups or bespoke events make an enquiry using the ‘Private Hire’ form and we will get back to you.
